Health, Nutrition, and Sanitation - Development Needs

To sustain access to adequate health care services, the required health personnel and medical facilities within the plan horizon should be met. (Table 6.15 refers). These requirements are based on existing and projected population. For health personnel, a ratio of 1:20,000 was used for getting the required number of Physicians, Nurses, and Sanitary Inspectors. On the other hand, a ratio of 1:5,000 was used to compute the required number of Midwives. A standard ratio of 1:50,000 was used to compute the needed City Health Centres while 1:5,000 was used to compute the needed barangay health stations.

Estimated cemetery land requirement per year can be based on the Crude Death Rate of 3.8 per 1,000 population, an average plot size of 2.4 sq.m. and a circulation and buffer area of 30 percent of plot area (Table 6.16 refers). It is estimated that the City will need more than eight hectares of cemetery land to accommodate the number of projected deaths for the plan period 2003 to 2012.
